Aboriginal Hunting Boomerangfrom the Central Desert

This hunting boomerang, or throwstick, was made out of Mulga, a dense hardwood found in the Central Desert of Australia. This throw stick has a blonde edge on both sides indicating that it was made out of a branch with this shape and then trimmed to construct the airfoil. Both surfaces have a rough hewn adze finish. The upper surface has shallow and slightly irregular longitudinal fluting along the entire length. Based on color and construction, it was probably made in the early 20th Century. I acquired this boomerang in 2002 from the estate of Dain Torguson, a collector and museum designer who lived in Chicago. This boomerang is in very nice condition. There are no chips or dings other than minor construction marks. A very nice example of a Central Desert throwstick.

Length = 62 cm ; Weight = 352 gm

I purchased, sold and traded a large number of artifacts over 50 years. I no longer add artifacts to my collection. All of the artifact I am currently selling are from my personal collection and they are the cream of the crop. No junk here. Check out my other sales to see my other artifact sales. I will be listing more in the near future. Please note: I try to charge actual shipping costs on all items. To save on shipping, you can purchase multiple items and wait until I send you an invoice. No international shipping. The winning buyer agrees to make contact with me within 2 days of the end of the sale and/or to make payment within 4 days. I will leave response after the buyer receives their item and leaves positive response for me. Check out my other sale items. I often list similar items in other categories. Most of my listings include collectibles from the Panama Canal Zone, artifacts, books, stamps and coins. This includes boomerangs, license plates, molas, celts, slings and Aboriginal items. If an item does not sell, I often relist it within a month at a lower price. Good luck and many thanx for purchasing my items.
